T-34 Tamiya

Time files, this kit was released over 20 years ago, I still remember when the Tamiya 1/48 line was the newest thing.

I’ve had this kit in my stash for a long time as I purchased it when it first came out. I also got the Lions Roar PE set for about $10 USD back then.

The best item from this set is the metal barrel and those grills. The engine cover also includes the internal louvres beneath the grill. I find this little detail strangely fascinating. Other than the hinges, the other items are somewhat up to you whether it adds any value, the grab handles were definitely too small for my ability to do. The included storage boxes I didn’t think look any better than the plastic ones.

Painted and weathered, they look great.

I replaced the kits string as cable with a set of real metal cable, I dont remember the source. It looks much better with no additional painting. The rest of the kits was straight from the box as was the decals. I added two Tamiya figures from their Soviet Infantry and Tank Crew set. As always still struggling with figure painting.

I primed with black primer and then shot highlights with White, trying my hand at the zenith school of painting. Going with much lighter coats of Soviet Green using an airbrush, I think this is first time I was able to achieve this lighting effect. Finally good variation in tones to add interest to a monochrome finish. Th tracks were weathered with powder and Vallejo mud effects. The model was finished with standard oils and powders to create a worn effect.
