Himeji Castle – Japan

Himeji Castle – a preserved 14th century Japanese castle 1 hour by train from of Osaka.

Himeji Castle (姫路城, Himejijō) is located in Himeji, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. It is considered the finest surviving example of traditional Japanese castle architecture, featuring a complex of 83 structures with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period. The castle’s origins date back to 1333 when a fort was built on Himeyama hill. Over the centuries, it underwent several renovations and expansions, with the current structure completed in 1609 under the supervision of daimyo Ikeda Terumasa

If you have any interest regarding fortification or Japanese feudal history, this is a must visit. A few movies like Kagemusha, Ran, The Last Samurai, You Only Live Twice, and the 1980 miniseries Shogun was filmed there .Its an hour train ride via the Rapid JR train from Osaka.
