World War 2

Messerschmitt bf-109E-3 – Eduard

A ME109? Yes, the last time I’ve built one of these were more than 20 years ago, a Hasegawa kit. A lot has changed in 20+ years, especially with something as popular the ME 109.

When this kit came out, the first comments was ‘do we really need yet ANOTHER me-109 in 1/48’. After actually seeing the kit and putting it together, the modeling world said an enthusiastic YES. The Hasegawa kit was fine, but this Eduard kit just brings it up another level. There are not countless boxing of different versions of the 109 in Eduard line – from Weekend editions without PE to ‘Royal Editions’ with everything under the sun included. This doesn’t even include the PE, resin, 3d printed items you can now enhance your kit with. So I have one of the weekend editions of the E-3, and even without any of the extras, this is a NICE kit.

Lets start with the Engine, as this kit has a full engine that is very detailed. Just some piping will really dress this up. I added the decal the various red, blue, and metal pipes/wires otherwise everything came with the kit.\

Now onto the cockpit. Added the belts and some wiring from lead wires, a few placards, but everything else was in the box. Simply beautifully outfitted without any resin or PE.

Now, put the cockpit and the engine together – you have to leave the panels off if you are detailing the engine!

After you closed up the body, the rest of the kit fell into place with no fuss. Some painting followed by the decals, and a nice flat coat to blend everything together. Minimal weathering was done, just enough to make it look used and you have a bf-109 on your shelf.
